Born in France in 1977, Dim Zayan is a multidisciplinary artist based in Marfa, Texas. Trained in Art and Design in Paris, he relocated to New York City where he began integrating digital media with traditional artistic practices. His work investigates contradictions inherent in contemporary experience, bridging subcultures through explorations of science, nature, spirituality, and technology.

Rarevision

Rarevision is at the same time a collection of digital assets, a software and a physical installation. Using a collection of animations carefully composed by Dim on Counterparty, the algorithm renders a live interpretation of the transactions happening on the Bitcoin network in real time. Other factors such as the price fluctuation or volume of transactions affect the representation, making the final result a perpetual live stream of digital assets dancing to the rhythm of the new economy. In 2022, Dim was invited to show Rarevision at the Kunsthalle in Zürich during one of the first show by a major institution about historical NFTs.

Raredream is the sequel to Rarevision and another exploration of the relationship between the activity on the Bitcoin network, digital animations and how a work can be made unique to collectors. All digital assets created for Raredream are playable with Rarevision and vice-versa.

PLEBZ

PLEBZ is a series of imaginary figures despicting archetypes born from the new economy. Through a series of naive portraits, the collection is a window to the heart and soul of a community and how financial revolution affected us as human beings . The portraits are painted over pages from vintage National Geographic magazines from the 40s and 50s about now-forgotten stories of ancient civilizations and post-war industrialization. These vintage articles are hijacked and repurposed to showcase contemporary behaviors. Each pleb also comes with a digital animation minted on Bitcoin.

The Bitcoin Voicepaper

In 2021, a man named Craig Wright who falsely pretended to be the inventor of Bitcoin tried to claim intellectual property over Bitcoin's whitepaper and started suing everyone who hosted a copy of it online. As a response, Dim asked 131 people from the space to recite a section from the whitepaper. The result was this collaborative video to show that Bitcoin is a community based currency that belongs to everyone and that nobody can claim ownership over it. In parallel, that statement also underlined the broad diversity in backgrounds, origins, aspirations of the community and that the meaning of the “Vires in Numeris” motto is contextually as computational as it is human.

Bulltardia is a comic series created by Dim about Bitcoin. Set as a fable, Bulltardia weaves the lore of Bitcoin into the epic tale of a honey badger named Bit tasked by his father to return a moonstone to the moon. The comic can be read for free on bulltardia.com

Vessels

By casting beams of LED lights through layers of metal grids and acrylic panels, Dim's vessels desconstruct physical light and as a byproduct invites the viewer to take an inverse journey of perceiving the analog as digital.

Dankset

In 2021, there weren't any application to allow collectors and artists to view their counterparty collection in a user friednly way. Dim created dankset.io to solve that problem. Dankset became one of the most used explorers to view indepdendent XCP assets.
